Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is historically the day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey to the amazement and excitement of the Jewish people. It is also traditionally the day that people would show their palms to each other. This was a symbolic act - usually done before the lunchtime meal to show the guests that you had washed your hands prior to cooking their sunday roast. It was also done between men to prove that one had been doing more physical labour than the other, thus was stronger and more virile and was therefore a way of settling fights in local bars and hostellerys.
I have heard that Palm Sunday related to people waving at each other across the street as an open gesture of friendship by exposing the sensitive finger tips to a friend ot colleague.
What a load of old rubbish hear you say about this well researched blog entry. But what I know for certain is that Jesus was going to his death and he knew it and he kept on riding.
